I posted a sofa for sale on FB Marketplace last week. A guy, Adam, messaged me that he was very interested. He came and saw the sofa, sat on it and decided to purchase it. We agreed on the price of $850. He sent me a deposit of $425 and arranged for a third party service called Lugg, to pickup the sofa and deliver to him. We agreed he would send the remaining balance of $425 due when they arrived. I texted him, he sent the balance owed of $425 and labeled it Sofa part 2. Then the next day, I get an email from PayPal that he’s claiming the second payment was an unauthorized use. I have screen grabs of the text messages saying he’s send the second payment and that he did. I’ve sent it all to PayPal. The case is still under PayPal review but I was mystified and figured it was 1 of 3 things. 1) he’s trying to scam me and get the sofa for half what we agreed. 2) His third party service damaged the sofa and he’s trying to get half off despite me contacting Lugg and they said they’d be responsible and would pay him if they’d damaged it and he hadn’t reached out to them. 3) buyers remorse. The guy seems legit, I checked his LinkedIn profile and he’s kind of a nerdy, bookish, person. He hasn’t responded to me texting him asking what’s going on, a voicemail or an email. So I’m concluding that he’s trying to scam the sofa for half the price. I had already transferred the money into my BofA account so I have the money. PayPal just shows a negative balance on my account. No way will I pay any money to PayPal to make this negative balance up regardless of decision but has anyone ever had this happen? Pretty sure the case will go my way as I have text message proof but would like input about similar cases if it’s happened to you.
