PayPal Direct Debit

Hey,

Logging onto my online bank account I found a PayPal Direct Debit had been set up for £1.99, and it has 'monthly' on the frequency column. Help? If this means PayPal will be taking £1.99 from my account every month could somebody please tell me why? I have recently purchased two items from eBay and the money hasn't been taken from my account yet, this is all I have done.

Thanks.

I have also noticed a direct debit to paypal that I definitely didn't set up. I've used paypal for years, so I'm concerned about how long this payment has been there without my being told.

I cancelled it, and I'm not sure if a recent payment from my bank account went through. If this payment is necessary, why is there no information and what can I do about it?

Hey there guys,

The direct debits that you see set up on your bank account is the process in which PayPal requests the payments you make in your PayPal account from your bank account.

This isn’t a monthly direct debit. The amount that you see, the £1.99/£2.99, this will be a payment amount that you made over the previous few days.

If you have made other payments since that for different amounts if you look at the direct debit again the amount would have changed to a different amount.

From cancelling the direct debit you do cancel the link between PayPal and your bank and PayPal then have no way to request funds from your bank account directly.

PayPal will only request funds from your bank account that you request to send to a seller.

 I hope this helps.

 Hi Berreck,

Thanks for posting on the UK Community Forum!

Have you checked your recent transactions on PayPal to see if the £2.99GBP relates to a payment you may have made in the preceding days? It can take a couple of days for funds to leave your bank when requested under a direct debit instruction, so I’d recommend checking over all transactions back to Jan 25th. If you have any money in your PayPal balance, this is the default funding source for your purchases. If you don’t have enough in your balance to cover the full amount, we request it from either your bank or card.

Here’s how to check your history to see if this explains the £2.99GBP charge:

  1. Go to www.paypal.co.uk and log into your account.
  2. Click 'History' near the top of the page.
  3. Click 'All activity (with balance)'.

I hope this helps and please update us if you get a chance!

Thanks,

Maria
