I got an ebay payment into my account and it showed up on the paypal balance when i opened it, that was a few weeks ago
However i needed to refund the payment last week and for some reason when i refund it says 'Not enough balance in your account, money will be charged from your attached credit card'
This shouldnt happen as i hadnt transferred the money from paypal into my bank account, shouldnt it still have been in the balance and refunded from there?? this is my first time using paypal to receive fees but im sure that the way its done is the money goes into the balance after which i have to manually transfer it into my bank account if i want to, it doesnt just transfer by itself
just in case, i checked my online statements for my bank account and there is NO RECORD of that amount coming into my account at all, so theres no way it was some transfer from my paypal account into my bank account without me knowing, or the ebay payment coming straight into my account etc. and i remember seeing the paypal balance saying Balance:71.57, the amount after paypals fees, so it was definitely in my account after the buyer paid
why has my money disappeared into thin air?! i cannot just lose that money because of a weird mistake, please help

Hey there, you know when funds enter your PayPal balance, they will remain there until you withdraw the funds to your bank or you make a payment. I would advise that you check your “History Log”. You should see that payments you made after you received your money was taken from your PayPal balance. To refund, you will need to add funds to your PayPal balance by simply clicking on “Add Funds”.
You can easily check the status of a transaction by viewing your PayPal account History. Your History contains a record of all your PayPal transactions.
To view your History, follow these steps:
1. Log into your PayPal account at www.paypal.co.uk
2. Click ‘History’ near the top of the page.
3. Use the filter options to narrow your search, then click ‘Show’.
Once you find the transaction you are looking for, click the Payment Status link for that transaction (eg ‘Completed’) to learn what the status means.
You can also click the ‘Details’ link for more information and options related to that transaction.

This happened to me too! I only had $25 but I haven't spent it at all, last night the amount was still in my account, this morning when I went to check to see if someone paid an invoice, my account balance was ZERO.
I haven't bought anything, I have transferred anything. There's no record of it being used/moved anywhere. Why the **bleep** is PayPal just stealing our money?
The "solution" DOESN'T HELP

Hi EvaF,
As moderators we cannot view your PayPal account however we can provide general advice.
I would recommend that you review your recent transactions on your PayPal account to see if any payments have left your account that might have used your balance, for example: if you were due to pay eBay fees and you had funds in your balance, we will use these funds towards the amount due for your eBay fees.
Also if there have been any claims opened against the account, we would place the transaction in question on hold and this can affect your PayPal balance.
If you review your recent transactions and are still unable to see where you balance has gone please contact us directly via our contact us link so we can review this further for you.
I hope this helps and thanks for posting

I was experiencing a similar problem (which is what brought me to your question). Although it took some time to decypher (the transactions history was a bit confusing with currency conversions, etc.), I finally figured out what happened: I had transferred $50 to my paypal acc't from my bank acc't; I placed an order for $39+, which meant I had a balance of $10+; I later placed an order for $26+ & paid with my attached credit card. They used my $10+ towards my order & billed my credit card only the remainder. I have no idea if this might help, or if your situation is completely different...just puttin' it out there!
Cheers!
