So I'm selling a sofa, and I get a text message from a guy who gives me his Email. riojohn.100 at gmail.com.
I emailed and said the sofa was still available, he then sent this:
Great, please consider it sold as i am willing to pay the full asking price as i need it for my cousin asap.
i have read through the advert and am totally satisfied with it.
sadly i will not be able to come personally due to my hearing loss and and i'm recovering from heart surgery so i am homebound.
i would appreciate it if you would email me with more photos (if available) since i am unable to see it in person.
I have a courier agent that will help me to pick it up at your preferred location, after you have received your money and i will pay you via paypal today.
where is the pick up location so that i can inform the courier agent about it now?

Been going on for years and as long as people fall for the scam they will keep doing it.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Same here. Immediately offered askign price for garden furniture and said paypal link had been paid which it had not. Said he had added western union courier moneis and could I pay "them" directly, even before monies had appeared in my paypal account. He said Paypal had confirmed they had sent me confirmation and it must be in my spam folder. But it does not appear anywhere in my account. Total scammer. Avoid. Uses riojohn.100atgmail.com

Hi Tifosa
Welcome to the community forum.
Never post an item until you are sure the funds are in your PayPal account.
We recommend you never hand an item over in person. You will not be covered under our seller protection policy in the event of a dispute. For face-to-face transactions, cash or bankers draft would be more appropriate.
