They spent several hour's on the phone and persuaded her to give her credit card details and security 3 digits. They talked her through setting up a PayPal account and then took £109.-Person called John at Smart Solution email Johnneversaysno@....
A further transaction of £24.52 was taken by a Sajib converted to US$ .Any body had a similar experience

I reported the problem to PayPal and registered the dispute have also spoken to them in person, The dispute process is automated and checked by computer and as the IP address for my mothers computer was the same as the account address the computer reply tells me that the payment is upheld. When I asked quite firmly the PayPal person confirmed that all the information I put in to support the claim was not even read.!!
The whole case has now been taken up by the fraud section in BT. Have changed passwords and cancelled my mothers debit card. .I think as well as the fraud team that as the more elderly people are now using computers, many just for Skype as my mother does this may be a potential new and quite prevalent scam

Hi there Hugh,
I agree with you on this. This should not be happening and it is a case of fraud.
We would investigate a potentially fraudulent transaction by seeing if it was the account holder who has made the payment or not. If we can see that the payment was not initiated by the account holder, we would not have the ability to refund this payment back to the customers account.
I realise that your mother was advised by a member of staff in BT to send this payment and you have done the correct thing by contacting BT directly in order to report the matter to them. They should be able to investigate this further on your behalf and advise you what can be done in order to try and get your money back.
You could also consider contacting your local police in order to determine if there is anything that they can do to assist you further with this.
I hope this information helps.
David.
