Old Address showing up as the default on order

When ordering from a site that supports PayPal
The payment comes up in PayPal with a default shipping address of an old address.
How can I remove this and other old addresses?
Also, when I select my real address, I always check "Use as a preferred shipping address", but this never takes effect. It still comes up with the old address.
I need to remove all old shipping addresses and make "Ruby Red" the default.
This is not an ebay purchase.
These old addresses do not show up anywhere in PayPal settings to be removed. They are cached elsewhere in your PayPal database.

I have contacted PayPal multiple times about this, but the replies are not even about this issue. It's like the question is misunderstood and a canned reply to some other issue is submitted.

This information is simply INCORRECT!  I have had this problem of old addresses showing on merchant sites which i've never visted before so this has to be a paypal problem!  I've seen this answer now 2X from PP customer reps. I thinks its their way of putting the blame elsewhere.  If you read the forums, you can see this has been a problem for at least 5 years and has not been addressed.

It is the paypal site that claims I have a 'preferred address' and I need to change it, but does not point me to where I can do that.

Shame on PAY PAL for not addressing this BUG in the system!!!  It is not an address cached by the vendor, it is in the Paypal system.  You (PAYPAL) give us a checkbox to mark the address as the "Preferred shipping address", but the address never gets updated.  I just ordered and delivered merchandise to my old address.  Very aggrevating!!!!

How about believing the feedback from your endusers!!!  I am so over this crap!

i moved 2 years ago and I'm unable to change this outdated default ship to address.  It happens on web sites I'm shopping on for the first time, some it is clearly avPaypal issue.  They really ought to fix this!!!!!!!   Very frustrating!!!

if you choose the shipping address you want at checkout then there is an opportunity to check a box "make this my preferred shipping address".

Still happening to me. My new address is confirmed as home and business address. Yet when I order from a new site that supports "quicker checkout with PayPal" (e.g. Quadtech) I see my old address as "preferred".

@dgk06 No, I've checked that box "Make this my preferred shipping address" when entering a new address and still the old address comes up as the default in later orders from other sites. The only consequence is now I have several copies of my new address in the list of alternates.

If I'm quick and notice, I can change the address. The problem is, a few times I've put the order through with the old address. Then I have to drive to that house multiple times to get my package there. That's hardly quicker checkout.

There is a real problem with PayPal auto filling old addresses that no one has mentioned yet.  Did you realize that if you do not catch the fact that a hidden old address has been filled in for your shipping address, (which just happened to me on a very expensive purchase which I wanted to have buyer protection on) that the seller MUST ship to the address printed out on the transaction as the verified address or all protection is lost, both for the seller and the buyer?  I spoke to a supervisor about this on the phone!  The only thing that can be done is to have the payment refunded by the seller and RE DO the entire payment making sure that the hidden addresses in the cache have been removed.  I had the supervisor remove them.  He said it was in a "gift list" that I could not see, so I could not remove it myself.  I had moved 6 months ago and changed my profile to read only my new address.  How they auto filled in the old address when the ONLY shipping address I could see was my new one, MUST be some glitch in the system.  It was good of the supervisor to call the merchant to explain the error and request that they refund the money in order to correct the shipping address in a new payment.  But now that they did refund it, PayPal is holding the funds saying that "the Federal Reserve has the funds" and it will be 5 days until they are credited back to my account so I can pay the vendor again!  WHAT does the FR had to do with this?  It is obvious that for the initial transfer and the refund the FR wasn't holding any funds.  So why now?  The initial transfer to the PayPal account was completed on the 10th and the account overview states that the temporary hold will be released as soon as the initial transfer from my bank is completed.  Well, it been completed almost 3 days ago and no hold has been released!  It should not take 5 days.  Is someone else using my money meanwhile, raking in the interest from loaning it out?  Be aware of this mess!  Check the auto filled shipping address every time.   I still do not have an answer and am still waiting to pay for the initial bill!  I feel sorry for the vendor and am delayed in having my item.

Not fair at all!

I had a similar problem over a year ago. With the advances in technology, there is no reason a consumer should not be able to totally delete an old address. I stopped using PayPal for this reason.

In case this is of help and referring to the original query re the shipping from address ....

As well as address info stored in your profile there is also address information stored under "Seller Preferences"  on left hand side of your Paypal home page.

Seller Preferences.JPG

If you click on this link you will see at the bottom of the list of a section "Sending my items" / "Dispatch information".   This is stored separately to your general address information so needs updating as well (if you haven't already).

We are still having this problem.  Been on the phone for an hour - not resolution yet.  In our case, the default shipping address is an address I used once, 10 years ago.  It is not a valid address anymore, but it's still my "default" address, and Paypal is oblivios to removing it.
