I've been curious about this "apple" request for a while, but as standard practice would never authorize it anyway.  Everything seems to work fine if you just ignore the request from IE to run "Apple", whatever that is.  In addition, I don't want Apple stuff on my computer anyway, and if I did have to install one of their products to use Paypal, I'd find another payment provider.

But the reason I posted is that reading through this thread, it's very obvious that there are still folks unaware of security issues with internet and mail use.  Yes, that request to run the "Apple" add-on is annoying, but you can, and should just ignore it, not only here but everywhere.  If the page you're using works without it, fine, you've said "no" and not installed some garbage (or worse) plugin.  If it doesn't work, definitely investigate BEFORE you install...find out why it's needed, where it's from, and if the site is legitimate.  Learn to say no as a matter of course, don't just obediently click on and install something the page says you need.

Also, I cringed when I read about getting a payment notice from Paypal and clicking the link to log in and find out the details.  NEVER do that!  Anyone can spoof an email from Paypal and take you to a site that looks like Paypal's.  You log in, and presto, they've got your login name and password, and before you know it, your account's empty  and they've probably charged more from your bank.  If nothing else, type in www.paypal.com, then right-click the page and choose "create shortcut", which will put a link on your desktop.  To be extra safe, drag it down to your Windows taskbar and pin it there, then delete the desktop link (so if a phony site creates a phony desktop link, you're likely to notice its sudden appearance).

An email link can show "paypal" and take you to an entirely different website, do not trust a link in an email when it has anything to do with accounts or money, or requests that you update anything for any account.

Anyway, that "Apple" message is annoying and I hope they fix it soon, but certainly no reason to leave Paypal.  Just learn to say no by ignoring that request,  and get in the habit of doing that by default, no matter where you see anything similar.  If a site won't run properly without a plugin, investigate first, install later.

It isn't just the Apple Quicktime pop up people are getting.  For some people... the Paypal website will ask you to install "Windows Media Player".

So they have to fix this so we don't get either one....

Apple Quicktime and Windows Media Player pop ups...... let's get rid of both.....

WOW....if this started almost two weeks ago... and yet no hard core answers...???

How about a warning message on screen as soon as people log into the Paypal website!!!!!

I had to call your office and get an account rep. who knew nothing of this issue, then while on the phone waiting for no valid information I did a Google search to find a Ebay forum taking about this almost two weeks ago.... yet here on 06/01/2012 I now have computers effected by this and I had to find help and information from a Google Search and not from the source.

This website traffic's about 20% of my business income now, and I can not get warnings or answer direct from the source.

Paypal needs to be more proactive about this now.

If programmers introduced bad code, so be it... but do so with the respect and peace of mind security issues need to be considered at these days.

I look forward to a resolve and increased communication on issues like this in the near future!
