I had been scammed by "microsoft locking out my computer for suspiscious activity" (which I now know is "Ransomware scam") by a company that claims they are associates of Microsoft. Gave them way too much $$ to "clean up and unlock" my ISP address?? When I spoke to a professional friend who does real computer work. He advised me never to let someone I don't know remotely long distantly "fix" anything and to take my computer to someone local to really have it "cleaned" .
I filed a resolution with PP and the company supposedly agrees to refund my $$ but have seen nothing yet. I had to change card numbers at my bank in order for this company not go get any further $$. I was told to by professional computer people to do so. Question is.. IF the $$ is truly refunded.. will PP deposit it to my new card number? Or try to get it to the old?? OR will they just put in into my PP acount balance??
Thanks for any help! I am thinking that a scammer company probably won't refund like they "say". but, I still have the option to upgrade(?) to the PP review!

Sorry..
It is my first time having to deal with this kind of thing..
I keep looking for something, anything.. that SAYS there is a refund linked to the transaction, but am not really sure how clear it would be. I SEE nothing obvious that says there is a refund linked- Although the company I supposedly dealt with SAYS they have filed for a refund for me.

Forget the other company. Forget what anyone told you.
Look at your PayPal activity list of transactions.
Click on the transaction where you sent the money. Is there any reference in that transaction about a refund. Since this was a family/friends transaction there should NOT a refund refenrece as the recipient cannot refund such a transaction.
Next look for any transactions simply as money recieved from the other party.
I susspect that there are none.
This means the other party did NOT send you any money and, I would add, not likely to do so.
The fake screen shots from the other party are meaningless.

Go to the transaction, click on it, click on View in classic site link. This will take you to a details page. If you do not see a related transaction info and a link to it, then the refund has not been issued through the payment.
Also check your other transaction activity to see if money was refunded by simply sending you a payment in the same amount or nearly the same amount with PayPal fee taken out, where applicable.
If none of the above is the case, then you have not been refunded and you must file a dispute on the original payment or even better if you funded the payment with credit card, file a credit card chargeback, as their purchase protection is broader than PayPal's and can deal with disputes that are in the "grey areas".
Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
