Unable to verify owner of account with Phone Call or TXT Message!

I currently have two issues. I am trying to purchase something online and I need to confirm the order. So I log in to PayPal(through eBay) and I am asked to verify it's me. The only options are to receive a phone call or receive a text message. I no longer use this phone number thats required. There is no option to receive a email or change the phone number. Fair enough, however I go to email PayPal through the contact page, where I am asked to log in... So I log in and it links me straight back to the verify page (asking to text or call me!!)..

How do I fix this issue!? What a silly security system.

Call PayPal customer service.

If you dropped a phone number and failed to update your PayPal profile at the time and failed to add a new phone number it is a security issue that can't be resolved until you find a way to positively identify yourself with PayPal.  Customer service is the best option.

Its only silly if you don't keep your contact information up to date on your paypal account.

Phone customer services and see if they can sort something out for you.

Your excuse to say its our fault for not keeping our contact information up to date, is completely misguided and offensive. I am currently deployed, and share a phone account with 8 other soldiers to lower the cost of calling my 2 little girls back home, in my paypal account AND on my phone app I have the correct phone number, but it says I cannot verify that way because I am not the account owner. And they give no other ways to verify. I just hope our trip to the local economy goes safely so I can get my 1 year old a present, since they havent verified my identity after 2 confirmed bank accounts, 2 confirmed debit cards, a paypal credit account, the 1 hour I spent on hold with paypal service to get my account unlocked with THAT phone, by answering questions about my past, and not to mention the 2 copies of my passport, my social security card, and my military ID. But I guess you are right, I didnt try hard enough to argue my way into the account holder job for our cell phone contract.... why is my phone good enough for my security key logging in every single time, but not to verify my purchase on Ebay like I have so many times in the past???

This is a PayPal user forum, not customer service.  Users here only volunteer time to help other users when possible and also point them in the direction where they can find answers.  If you need specific detials and answers about your account, you will need to contact PayPal customer service.

I will give them a call. I didn't really use paypal until I needed it when I purchased online that's why I forgot to update my info. (which is fair enough I should have updated it). I just really think there should be an option to do it via Email too. Some parts of PayPal have the email option (like requesting a new password) just identifying did not. 😕

Edit: I think im just more baffled by the endless loop when trying to email them.

email is an excellent fraud tool.

Phone numbers are assigned to people and can be verified.
