I purchased a couple things a few days ago for around $145 and it apparently went through, but then the company canceled the transaction and issued me a refund. I got the email from the company and paypal saying my refund was issued. When I look on my recent payment history on paypal it shows the transaction and it says refunded but the money is not in my bank account or my paypal account.
I paid directly from my bank account not a credit card. How long will it be for me to see my refund?

Spent a few long minutes on the phone with PayPal this morning about their seemingly unacceptable time for processing refunds. After chuckling a little at how the representative kept fumbling around with his answer, I was able to gather a couple of important points that most likely explains why you have to wait for the refund:
- When making a payment for goods and services, PayPal expedites the process for payment. The seller is accessed a 2-3% fee (this is an important detail). The funds are typically available for withdrawal within minutes - depending on where you route them, it could take 3-5 days to land there; in my case it's my bank.
- When receiving a refund, PayPal doesn't access a fee to "move" the money back to the buyer. PayPal actually refunds a portion of the original fee to the seller. This is according to the representative I spoke with.
So what does this mean? Well, if PayPal is making money, they will expedite your money transaction. If they are not making money, or giving back money they took, they will not expedite the transaction. You will wait 2-3 business days for the money to be available for withdrawal; then another 3-5 days for the money to hit your bank if that is where you route it. Not real convenient, especially if the seller issues a refund on a Friday...

It's funny that if you don't use paypal, and you just directly pay for things with a debit/credit card online and it gets refunded it's fairly instant. Yet when Paypal does it, it's as if they are still stuck in the 90s and have to wait for approval to refund the money or something. Paypal should really work on this, they can take money out instantly, they should also be able to return it in the same fashion as everyone else does.

I am waiting for some refunds also.
Showing as completed on paypal.
Accoring to what I have read, if its a payment from a debit/credit card it can take up to 30 days.
30 days.
Love how paypal can take your money in a few seconds but somehow can't give it back so quickly.
Maybe they need it sitting in their accounts to make as much profit as possible.
I have been waiting two days so far and really could do with having the money back.

You are posting in the middle of a very old thread so you could easily be missed, best to start your own thread if you want others to help you promptly.
How did you FUND the paypal payment that was refunded via your bank account.
Did you pay via bank transfer OR a linked debit card?
Is it showing as completed OR on temp hold or pending?
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

If you funded the original paypal payment to the seller with a debit or credit card then it won't go back to your paypal balance.
Once marked as completed it will automatically go back to your bank account or credit card but takes up to a week to process through to the bank and a bit longer for a c.c (paypal say allow 30 days but I have never waited longer than a week for mine).
