When will PayPal have Chip and PIN card readers? (EMV?)

Does PayPal plan to have a card reader that will be able to accept the new chip cards and comply with new EMV standards?

Actually it matters a great deal. If you take a bad card for a large charge swiped instead of dipped for the EMV after October 1st, you're out of luck, because the liability is yours, not the credit card company at that point.

The longer it takes them to issue new readers the longer I have to key in card numbers and pay a higher percentage. It is a win for the company to take their time.

I am a long time paypal user.  Reading the Square site, they also 'promise' to have the device ready in time. They are taking pre-orders and their reader sells for $29.00.  The Paypal UK version is 50 pounds.

PayPal, it's time to step up.

I've alternated between using PayPal Here and Square for my minor transactions.

I have a Square EMV reader now. It works great.

Paypal, I'm waiting.

I won't wait for long.

So you already have your EMV reader from Square? I tried signing up for either/both this morning and neither are apprearing available until an undetermined time in the "Fall" and with my account things are on auto pay etc etc... I can't promise today that the required $50 will be in the bank account down the road whenever they pull their bootstraps on.

Here's a link to squares chip reader that is currently selling. It's $29. The one that comes out in the fall does both chip and NFC payments (apple pay). Link is good as of today 7-30-15

I just went in and ordered my Square Reader.  There are two models, one is $29 and one is $49.  The $49 model is a stand alone.

Thanks for the link--just ordered the $29 Square reader. I usually prefer the Paypal Here reader because I can get my money instantly with the PayPal debit card, but I've got a show coming up in November and PayPal's  "coming this fall" is a bit too vague for me to wait around. October 1 is only a few weeks away...

The $29  Square Reader is the size of their old one, but the PP reader is separate and as big as a phone. I'm not liking this. I've been with PP a long time, but maybe it's time to change. October is looming rapidly.

And PayPal says the device will be available Fall 2015 - that could be December!  I have little trust that they will announce the device's actual availability and be able to deliver to everyone in 6 weeks!
