When will PayPal have Chip and PIN card readers? (EMV?)

Does PayPal plan to have a card reader that will be able to accept the new chip cards and comply with new EMV standards?

Looks like it's finally available, off not exactly affordable to the smaller of us.

I find PayPal_Ashley's response alarming. "No plans at this time" and "pass along feedback to the product team"? Seriously? This is a major shift in the industry and we have to tell you? We need to tell the product team we want this? We have to ask when this will be available? It should be plastered all over the PayPal Here webpage the required shift to emv is on its way and when PayPal will be able to provide the proper readers. If PayPal cannot, we need to know that so we can switch to a provider that is prepared. Ashley's response makes me think we all need to abandon PayPal Here.

You keep giving us this link, but the information on the page has not changed in 4 months.  They brag about how many merchants use PayPal Here, but they need to remeber that that is a lot of units to get out.  Will they be able to do it.

In addition, as brick and mortar merchants move to only accepting EMV cards, the scam artists will be looking for places to use their fraudulent magnetic strip cards, and mobile merchants will be vulnerable without the new readers.  You may have only had an occasional chargeback in the past, but look for that increase greatly if we are not able to upgrade.  You would think that PayPal would want us to be more secure sooner, rather than later.

I accept mobile payments in Florida where the humidity often affects magnetic strips as well as the PayPal Here reader, meaning I have to key in almost half of the transactions at the higher fee.  These new readers will correct that, so I am eager to get one!

I find Paypal responses to run the gamut from totally uniformed to supremely awful.  This company's customer service makes so mad.

The last response on this board from someone at PayPal was in November 2014 - and we know what a lame response that was! So now it's June, just a few months away from the liability shift, and that must still be their official stance as I still cannot find any actual information on any PayPal site. They have a page that explains the shift - but no information on how we take a chip card using PayPal Here. Must be time to give up on PayPal Here.

Let's try again. This official response is 4 months old with no more information. The deadline is 3 1/2 months away. When will the emv reader be available and what is your plan to get it in to all of our hands BEFORE the deadline?
