Difficultly in receiving refund - bank details requested - Is this legit?

Hi there,

Long story short I recently bought a phone and was then contacted by the seller to say that it was no longer available.

They have tried to refund the money but said that since the money has already left their Paypal account, they can't issue a refund via eBay and have asked for my bank details instead to make a bank transfer. They then followed it up to say they were trying to work out how to refund the postage.

I have now had a notification from a 'cancelled transaction' which says that I shouldn't respond unless I have had the refund.

Should I go ahead and provide my bank details or am I about to be had!?

Please help. Thanks

If the seller doesn't have his bank account linked to his PayPal account, he may be unable to use the PayPal "issue refund" procedure.

If that is the case, it may be best for you to ask the seller to send you the refund via a USPS money order which can be cashed at any USPS post office.  I would not provide the seller with my banking details.

You should not agree to the eBay cancel transaction request unless you've received a full refund.

Thanks for the response Sandy. He is waiting on verification from his bank to get his PayPal account verified which should take 3-5 days. I've said I will wait for the verification process and once it's complete he'll be able to refund me.

I phoned PayPal who said if I haven't received a refund before 22nd Feb (when the case ends) then I should respond and say that the item has not been received.

I won't provide my bank details. Thanks for the help!
