Add Money to Paypal zero or positive balance from Bank Account - Policy change as of June 2016

I have tried multiple times to add money to my paypal zero balance and then to my paypal with a positive balance from my bank account. It simply will not work and a message pops up telling me to phone in. I did 3 times now and each CSR tells me that they no longer allow you to do that. as of June 2016. This is a surprise to me.  You can only add funds to a negative balance. I wanted to add money so I could transfer it to another bank account to avoid paying for a wire transfer fee to my bank. They say that that is exactly what they aret trying to avoid.

Is anyone else able to add money to a zero or positive balance account from a bank account?

You can add money from your bank account to your PP account certainly.  But what are you trying to do with it after you add the money to your pP account? Send the money to another bank account?  You can only send it to another PP account and then withdrawl it to the bank account linked to it.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Well first I want to add it. That should not be dependent on what I am going to do with it later. Paypal has advised they changed their policy and you can no longer simply add money to your PP account from a bank account (or a credit card for that matter) to create a positive PP balance. Are others able to do that?

I have tried it multiple times with a zero balance and a positive balance and it simply does not work. I am verified, confirmed, etc and have had this account for over 10 years. When I get to the final screen after confirming how much I want to add and it says "Review...You're adding $X, etc" and I click the button I get a message that 'There's a problem with adding money to your account" and to call customer service. When I call paypal they tell me every time their rules have changed and you cannot just add money to your account anymore. They said when you pay via paypal or send money to your friends, family etc you choose your funding source so there is no need to add money to the account.

3 different Paypal CSR's have told me this. So, what, they don't know what they are talking about and everyone else is able to add money to their account except me?

Paypal said they use the cheapest ACH to move money from PAYPAL to bank and from bank to PAYPAL to save us money !

There is  a new ACH coming to town, where you will receive the fund on the same day,but would cost more in fee,and I dont think Paypal will use it.

So it sounds like ACH is not free, with the huge volume Paypal conducts,it could be a large sum.

But I doubt there are many PAYPAL members who want to transfer money from bank to PAYPAL account,so how much extra cost would yours add to their existing bill?

Also if you read Paypal revised terms soon to be effective Oct 19,Paypal said they do invest our PAYPAL balance ,earn interest and KEEP it .

So it should welcome you moving money to your Paypal account, but then you said you want to move it elsewhere,so??

I have not tried adding money to my PAYPAL account lately, but years ago when I bought a house,I want to use my Paypal debit card to pay for appliances and assorted house related expenses, also plane tickets etc as I would get a 1 1/2% cash rebate from Paypal when I used my Paypal debit card as a credit card in stores.

I did not have any problem adding fund from bank to my PAYPAL account.

question- Does this restriction apply to all countries? I would think it would be expensive in some countries, they may consider this as a wiretransfer /(there is a Vietnamese who posted in this forum recently,he said he downloaded some US dollars from his PAYPAL account to a bank in Vietnam and it did not show up in his Vietnam bank,He showed us the Paypal transaction detail and I saw there is a wiretransfer fee of 200 Vietnamese currency ,so in his case,it is not free, but he paid for it) .

I'd like someone in the US or Canada to try adding money to their zero or positive balance PP account from a bank their account is linked to as a funding source.

The bank you want to move money to from PAYPAL,is it outside your country?

if both banks are within your country, you dont need PAYPAL,you  can do this with online banking of the sending bank.

If one is foreign and one is domestic,I dont think PAYPAL can help you

So you had a negative balance and that was the only reason you were able to add funds? How do you get a negative balance in the first place?

Both of my accounts have US routing numbers and they are BMO Harris and RBC Canada (yes a Canadian bank but they have a US routing number that works with paypal so that the USD is not converted into CAD when sending it there, into a USD account of course.

Btw, why do they have an Add Money option if you cannot add money?

If one if foreign and one is domestic PP cannot help as even if it worked (which it doesn't because you cannot add money) they would convert it to CAD and I want to avoid that.

As for sending money from my bank account to a different bank account I own the maximum with BMO Harris personal accounts is $5K per day and it's free. They do not allow such transfers from business accounts which is where my money resides as I earn it through my business. I do have a personal account and I can transfer money from the business account to the personal account fof free, but if I want to transfer $50K to another bank account I own I have to do $5K/day for 10 days from the personal account which is a pain.
