HORRIBLE IDEA TO HOLD FUNDS FOR 21 DAYS!!!

Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them!  Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

I called PayPal and asked them, why am I shipping an item to someone and I don't even have the money for it.  To which they replied it's for my benefit that way if you have to refund the money it will be there.  WHAT!!??!!  So while my item is out there floating around I'm stuck not being able to get my money.  OH and by the way if you have your PayPal linked to your checking BE CAREFUL!!!  PayPal deducted the shipping charges from my checking even though there was money in my PayPal account and then in a few days put it back in my checking account.   This over drew my account!!! Then when I called PayPal about it the they said "yes that's how they do it now"  And they would not refund any of the fees that accrued from their new policy.  I told them I wanted to see where in the terms and conditions I agreed to that was stated.   HMMMM guess what they couldn't seem to find that.   I say everyone should quit using PayPal for one month maybe they would change there ridiculous new policy!!

Your time would have been more productive beating your head against the wall than trying to talk to their customer-no-service about their ridiculous policies.  Quit using PayPal for one month?  More like forever for me.

Okay, so you say they hold your money for 21 days or upon feedback and you won't ship the item until the funds clear. I guess the buyer will never get the product  in order to leave feedback.  I would file a chargeback on you the seller, because what you just said is wrong. Take it up with Paypal because without customer's you have no product to sell.

It's all politics, thank Whitman gal that was running for office in cali .  Ebay owns pay pal  and Since the early 2000's pay pal has been under suspicion of running an illegal banking operation.  I plan to take the same action you are because paypal is not clear on their hold policy.  Is it 3 months of being a new seller on ebay, or having less than  100 star ebay rating or is this policy of 21 day hold permanant.  Oh! almost forgot about seller protection.  There is none so,  if you are a new seller and you sell an item likesay  a box of baseball card packs unopened  and a buyer does not get a good card they can submit a claim and get there money back and you my fine seller firend are out out of luck.  If you want to beat ebay and paypal get a merchant account , don't except paypal and set up your auction on webstore.com.  There are no fees what so ever and they offer a free online store

I am appalled! I would guess we all have a horror story to tell. The size and influence both EBAY and PAPAL have allows them to implement any policy that will work in their favor. I personally am looking for other services and would appreciate any referrals, It's time to move on cause this ship will sink sooner or later.

I so totally agree.  Isn't there something about fair business practice?  This is a monopoly that needs to get decent competition that also needs to treat the sellers with respect.  Customer service is horrid to non-existent, they require us to only use PayPal and not money orders and checks and they not only take their piece of our sales but now have the use of our money for 21 days. How about all the bad buyers that will buy our items, say there is a problem, get their money back and then won't send our items back, that is what I am afraid of.  The FCC needs to look at all these demands that eBay and PayPal are forcing on its real customers - its sellers.
