HORRIBLE IDEA TO HOLD FUNDS FOR 21 DAYS!!!

Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them!  Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

This has been happening to me more than just on random occasions.  About 2 months ago it happened on 3 transactions in a row to me.  I wrote letters and called and complained for days.  Nothing really worked until I finally got someone on the phone who claimed to be a manager higher up in the company which is probably BS anyway.  Well they went ahead and released one of my holds which is still ridiculous.  Well here it is tonight, I just 2 items and low and behold there are 2 holds on my account.  i know have over $300 of my money just sitting there.  Im so **bleep**.  I really hope we can start using another payment system soon.  This is a monopoly and it's disgusting.

I was told that we do not have to offer paypal, just some form of instant payment, i.e. a merchant account or any online payment company. Needless to say I am looking into it. Pay pal and Ebay are nothing more than crooks, period. I am making a prediction that as soon as someone else comes along to provide these services both Ebay and Paypal will be out of business just like so many other large companies who have mistreated their customers. Remember Prodigy, AOL, etc., etc.  Mark my words

I BELIEVE THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS SUPPOSED TO CONTROL THE BUILDING OF A MONOPOLY.  ISN'T THERE SOMEWHERE WE CAN WRITE THE GOVERNMENT SINCE EBAY IS ALL OVER THE USA.  THEY ARE CONTROLING EVERYTHING THAT THEY CAN.

Today, I sent a 3 pound package, with 185 pages in it, to Eric Holder, US Attorney General. The 185 pages included my two-page letter and all of the comments and complaints shown on this forum since the 21 day hold began. If anyone can tell us if this is legal or not, he should. If anyone can help us out, I'm hoping he can. As soon as I get a response (hopefully, I will), I'll post it here for all to see. Ebay should NOT force us to use Paypal or any other electronic pay system, only. As a seller, we should be able to choose what type of payment we'll accept - Paypal, check, or money order. Yet, we MUST use Paypal. That's the real issue. If we weren't forced to use Paypal and could choose our own acceptable payment type, no one would be using Paypal at all. Of course, Ebay knows this - that's why they made that change a year or so ago.

Now keep in mind we all  have to be aware of the alternate method to correcting this "horrible idea to hold funds for 21 days, Why this is a bad idea?" episode. We, collectively must watch the increasing of fees for them still trying to capture funds  for stockholders rather than support us little and big guys, buyers and sellers alike. We must all stay on our toes from here on out to maintain a workable resolution in fairness to all. The voices of many are being heard lets keep it this way.

eBay & PayPal monoplize only themselves, unfortunately they have turn what was once a easy way to make a few bucks while getting rid of items that most of us have sitting around collecting dust and some others (myself included) buy items from others.  Their are a lot of other websites out there that you can buy and sell items on.  Amazon.com, Wensy.com, eBid.com, sell.com, craigslist.com to name a few.  The government will not step in because of a monopoly but they should because of business ethics (the holding of funds for 21 days earning dividends in interest bearing accounts while not yielding anything to the parties who money is held), another unfortunate thing is that because PayPal is not FDIC approved they do not have to follow US banking regulations, which in itself should be a crime but is not.  Everyone who has a PayPal account is being effected, but because PayPal can essentially make up their own rules as they go along because they are not a bank.  Because we all signed up with PayPal we are at their mercy (well i'm not anymore having moved away from eBay/PayPal).  Regardless of how much we all b*tch and moan nothing will be done over the short term and if anything at all is going to be done it is going to take years for it to happen.  My suggestion is to get away from eBay/PayPal.  Before you sign up (especially sellers) you read every agreement so you are not blind sided like we have been with PayPal.  PayPal was like a new puppy when it was first offered as a payment system through eBay, as it grew they knew they could corner everyone and ring them in then phase out other payment processes (slowly so no one really noticed).  With the majority of online auctioning being done on eBay they had us all by the (so called) balls now.  And now in the end (like that cute little puppy in the beginning who licked your hand) they turned on you and have bitten the hand that literally feeds them.  Another unfortunate thing is that they really don't care, because they have made their money now, they see the writing on the wall with Amazon and eBid taking a good portion of their sellers away due to lower or the same fees but a lot less hassle.  eBay & PayPal know it's the end of an era for them as new auction houses are popping up and more and more people are finding alternatives to the over priced thing that is eBay/PayPal.  So they are making as much money as they can in the short term knowing that people are leaving them, so PayPal has stepped in and is controlling the one thing every seller needs to turn a profit and that's their, our and my money.  This actually happened to me on December 1st when i sold a bronze statue on eBay for $2400+shipping.  The buyer was from Croatia and he knew as well as myself it would take roughly 3 weeks for shipping and customes to clear it.  It in fact took 29 days, according to PayPals policy my money should have been released to me on 12/22/09, it was not.  So i emailed them and requested a release as the 21 days had passed.  I got the same generated email everyone seems to be getting, stating a bunch of crap.  So i waited and i waited and i waited, Christmas came and went.  Now keep in mind i had to pay out of pocket to ship this item at a cost of $331, yes shipping to Croatia is expensive.  I was in contact the whole time with the buyer as he was with me.  On 12/30/09 the item arrived, he left me positive feedback immediately as he knew i had been waiting for the money to clear this holding pattern it was in.  Still PayPal held my money for another 7 days before releasing it to me.  I waited the 21 day hold, spent $331 out of pocket to ship, recieved positive feedback when the item was received and still had to wait until PayPal felt like giving me my $2700 on 1/6/2010.  Nice way to spend the Christmas and New Years don't you think?  After that happened i stopped selling on eBay and have since told my bank that no transactions from eBay/PayPal are to be sent from my account.  I removed my credit card from the system and am with holding $43 in eBay fees i owe because they made me wait an extra 2 weeks.  They go by their own rules as they apply to them and no one else.  So as i have said before and i will say every day here on in.  FVCK YOU PAYPAL, AND FVCK YOU EBAY.  Thank you for showing me what 9 years of being a retutable seller on your site is worth to you.  So another BIG FVCK YOU EBAY/PAYPAL.  Thanks for the memories b*tches

This is just plain sick.  You're as bad as paypal. Real people are being hurt and you think it's funny to go and post a suepaypal link with porn????

mrs5pennies:  My sincere apologies about using that link--I do not in anyway think it was funny to post a link with porn and drugs especially when I believed it to be the appropriate forum. I am disgusted as well with that forum and feel guilty that I kept posting it for class actions. Believe me I have been hurt by Paypal's decision  also and while a casual buyer and seller for many years with 100% I can no longer afford to sell or every buy again from Paypal.    I am a legal comsultant and take this very seriously.  I have tried to make suggestions, list resources and links to eBay's financial and business reports and news.  I assumed that when I received an email asking for details about a law firm that wants to take on the case that it was because I had registered on that site.  I should have known better but my intention was not to mislead anyone or point them in such a direction of porn.

A big thank you to BigTPoppa for providing the correct information and I did as he suggested to find out more about the class action.

For anyone who is interested in the financial side of  eBay, they will be reporting their fourth quater earnings tomorrow around 5 after market close.  Itt appears and while it is speculated that the numbers will not be as strong as  projected or expected, I found it interesting that Amazon.com has been slowly over the years eating into eBays profits.  Two good articles along with comments show that small sellers that we may be are having an affect on eBay and their investors.  "http://bit.ly/7fyj6x ---EBay: Progress, But No Turnaround; Online retailer expected to meet The Street's guidance but keep losing share to Amazon."

And this one that has more detail and comments about sellers leaving in droves:http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pr?s=EBAY. along with this one message board  http://messages.finance.yahoo.com/Stocks_%28A_to_Z%29/Stocks_E/threadview?m=tm&bn=5744&tid=786210&mi...     -in lieu of the report due to be released tomorrow around 5 there is plenty of posting on the financial websites.

Again I apologize for posting the letssuepaypal link it will not happen again.
