Why is a credit card needed?

Why do I have to add a credit card to use PayPal? It worked before and I don't see any use for PayPal if a credit card is required.

You haven't added your country to your profile (so we can see when we hover over your username) or said in your post which country you are in so unfortunately we can't advise.
Paypal varies a great deal country to country so you need to tell us where you are on this worldwide community forum.

ok, if you are just using funds in your paypal balance then your account would not be verified so Paypal like you to add a back up funding source ie card to your account to verify and provide funds if there is not enough in your balance.

Ok, I don't understand the logic here as I already transfered funds to paypal which I should be able to use (in my opinion). If I need a credit card I rather buy it directly with my credit card and not involving paypal in the processs.

I use paypal with my linked card as it saves me typing in card details everytime I buy online.
