Temporary Authorization

This is my first time using PayPal for a transaction.

I paid an online merchant for a 20$ digital gift card with a prepaid non-reloadable debit card. I then got 2 emails from the merchant, one saying that my payment was successful and the order was on its way then a little later I got another the other email that stated "The payment could not be processed and the settled charges will be refunded to the to the original form of payment.", I checked PayPal and it said that my payment was now a "temporary authorization", It also said "This is a temporary authorization to make sure your funding source will cover the payment. Your funding source will be charged when (name) completes your order." But the merchant said that the payment could not be processed and now I have no idea where my 20$ is, I went and researched many sources including the PayPal community and I have had no luck.

I'm wondering if I could cancel the payment in any way to get my 20$ back, I have no bank account linked to PayPal and the card I used is non-reloadable, am I able to get the funds to my PayPal wallet?

Please reach out to the Support Team during business hours by clicking the Contact option at the bottom of PayPal page. If your unable to login into your PayPal account do reach us via phone and kindly select "Call us as Guest".

I did call and I was told that Paypal could not do anything about the transaction and I needed to contact the merchant, I contacted them via email and have gotten no help, I saw that I could wait 30 days until the temporary authorization expires but the card I used is non-reloadable, is the funds going to go into my Paypal wallet?
