I was SIM swapped and hacked earlier this week. The parasitic thief tried to buy a $1200 Dyson with my bank account via Paypal. I physically went to my bank and closed the account to prevent it going through, and contacted PayPal as soon as it allowed me to report the transaction (which was not immediate because it was a pre-authorization). They responded promptly and tried to refund the full amount to my closed bank account, which went nowhere. Then, for some reason, the fraudulent transaction proceeded and has now changed my balance to be negative for almost $1200? When I tried calling PayPal, I was bounced around in unhelpful automated loops and couldn't get in contact with a human to explain the situation. I opened a case via that phone call, and just got an email that they saw nothing wrong with my account. What's the next step of escalation? One look at the recent transactions history shows exactly what's happened, I just need a human to look at it.
