Duplicate charges on bank statements after negative balance

Alright so for a year or two now I've had my bank linked to my Paypal account and everytime I'd purchase something, it would go through instantly but the money would get taken away my bank account around a week later. This time I had insufficient funds and did not notice it. My paypal balance went to -$36.48 and I tried to make it zero again by depositing -$36.48, A couple days later it was still negative so I checked my bank statements and saw this:

Dec 2: Insufficient Funds - Make a deposite/ PAYPAL (36.48) -$0.01
Dec 4: Returned item charges / PAYPAL (36.48) -$45.00
Dec 6: Payment /PAYPAL -$36.48
Dec 6: Payment /PAYPAL -$36.48

I am very confused as they took away over $115 from my account but all I had done was add $36.48? And i did not return any items.

1. Paypal charges a fee for failed bank transfers.

2. If you have failed bank transfer then Paypal automatically keep trying to access those funds to clear your negative balance.
They have already fronted the payment to the seller on your behalf and so want the money owed.

If you sent a bank transfer to your Paypal account and Paypal also automatically applied for the funds as well then you would have 2 payments processing to your Paypal balance.
The first one to arrive will clear the negative balance and the second one will be credited as a + to your balance and you can withdraw it back to your bank account once cleared.

Did I say that? Fees for your country are accessed via FEES bottom of paypal pages.
