Tax ID on hold

I receive a payment over 600$ and it being hold by tax ID. I updated my tax ID and they said it will be wrap up in 15 minutes but it doesn't. I contact to the support team. They said the document that I uploaded is currently under review by their tax department. Once it completed, the hold on my account will be lifted and the funds will be released automatically. Also request me to check my emails on a timely basis. They also said the current wait period is 24 hours, post which my funds will be released. And now it already 48 hours without any update. Does anyone been through this? And how does jt take actually?

I am sorry to hear that there has been a delay with your update. We do generally have a response fairly quickly on these but at times it can take a little longer if we are a little busier than usual. If you don't receive an update soon please contact us directly so we can have it looked at for you. I would also check your spam/phising folder just in case an update has gone in there.

Hi there.

Mine is the same.

I received $900 on May 25th.  I was asked to put TAX ID so I did right away.

Waited for couple hours, but it was still on hold so I called Paypal.

They said, it will usually take 24 hours to 72 hours to update the info, so I waited 5 days, still NOTHING!!

 

I looked up info online, and there was a forum discussing about this issue.  One person said it took 3 weeks to get his money back.

 

This is so WRONG, Paypal!!  You can't hold my money without any reasons!!!

You promised me to release my fund in 72 hours, but you have not.  It's is like stealing money from customers!!!!

Yes, I received it finally last week. It took me 2 weeks to get my own money. So ridiculous!! I will never ever use paypal again!! Hope everyone gets their money back by now

Financial and payment platforms are required to meet certain standards that PayPal may not be meeting with these odd holds of people’s money even after the Tax ID has been provided, while continuing to communicate what reads to me in my opinion, as false or misleading timeframe information about when the funds will be released. I have called PayPal nearly everyday since May 25th, attempted their so-called workarounds, believed PayPal when PayPal communicated the funds would be released in ”15 minutes”, “30 minutes”, “3 days”, “immediately”, “June 10th”, etc. However, they appear to me in my opinion to not be acting in good faith, given that none of these promises have been honored and there seems to be no intention of ever releasing my money to me (no date, time, etc.) It’s been a pretty awful customer experience for me…and still having my funds held has caused me some serious financial hardships. Hope PayPal resolves the odd hold for you, soon.

Update:
-Time frame keep increasing from 15 mins to 24 hours then 72 hours and now there's no specific time frame.
-The case still under review by a specialist team.

After many calls, many questions about tax ID hold, this is everything the support team let me know so far. They also said that they notified the team by mentioning the urgency. And they're sorry for it because there is an ongoing internal issue.

The sender sent me $800 by Goods and Services on May 24th, but there was no option for the sender to cancel the payment, and no option for me to reject the payment so it could be re-sent. PayPal told me I would need to take $800 from my bank account and refund to the sender and then have the sender re-send to me as friends and Family, because even though I provided the ssn # to remove the hold, they could not use refund the sender’s money. I was then told the delayed 15mins te hold would be released in about 3 days. It took over a week for the refund to the sender to process and then days for the friends and family payment to credit. Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for the &800 PayPal continues to keep on a tax ID hold. I call almost everyday, and send email via the site. The site and articles has false and misleading statement communicating the funds will be released in 15 minutes… How can PayPal not have basic functionality on the site to allow sender’s to cancel a payment sent in error, or for a send to reject unwanted or erroneous payments? Furthermore, I question if it is even legal for PayPal to hold money indefinitely without cause. I provided my ssn# right away and PayPal messaged back on the site that funds would be released in 15 minutes.

I received $1000 on May 25th and finally paypal released my money last week!!! I can’t believe it took me more than 2 weeks to get my own money!! hope you get your money back soon!!

Did you ever receive the money? I’m dealing with the exact same issue! I refunded the money - which came out of my checking and had them resend another way but I’m still waiting for my money on hold.. It’s a bit nerve racking and making me anxious!
