Sending to Friend & Family still charges a fee

So I can't figure what I'm doing incorrectly here.  It's this type of frustration that forces me away from paypal.  Their help states if you are transferring money from your PayPal balance to another person using Friends and Family then there is no fee yet here it is charging me a fee to do this exact type of transaction.   Clearly I'm missing something and PayPal is not being upfront about it to make this easier to understand.

Hello @asdfasdf2345,

Welcome to PayPal Community Forum and thank you for posting!

I understand your concern about the fees charged while sending the money via friends and family options. Please be informed that only sending domestic personal transactions through PayPal Balance and bank account there is no fee. However, sending international personal transactions there is a minimum fee of 0.99 USD and maximum international fee of 4.99 USD. As per the information that you've shared, it is possible that you're trying to send money internationally due to which fee is being charged. Here's the Help Center Article to know more information about fees.

I hope this information helps,

Ayesha

I had a friends and family payment sent to my PayPal account today (not international - UK to UK) - a fee came off the payment received. Surely this isn't right. The payment was a gift, so effectively PayPal have taken some of my gift!!

The sender must have used the goods/services option when they sent the funds instead of clicking on the friends/services option.

They must have done that as receivers never pay a fee for f/f payments.

Also you don't say your account type but business accounts can only receive goods/services payments and not f/f payments.

No - they sent it via friends and family - they sent me a copy of the transaction from their PayPal account. This is not the first time it has happened - I've had previous friends and family payments (definitely friends and family) sent via PayPal and each one has had a fee deducted. Sorry, but I don't accept the reasoning in your reply.

I have the same problem. I live in another country, but my paypal account is linked to a bank located in the USA, and I'm sending money to a friend also located in the USA. The money never crosses an international border, yet I'm still being charged. Why?

Because you are using a U.S paypal account internationally. So not only will it show as an international transaction but as paypal is country specific you should not be using it internationally. When you move countries you should close one account and open a new one in your new country.

I am not using an account internationally and I am trying to send to someone in the U.S. I'm getting a fee of $14.80 for friends and family. Did you figure out an answer to this??
