Can't pay on website, only as gift?

Hey guys,
Could you help me figure out what would be the reason of this:

So there's this guy I know for a long time, we did many transactions together.
I trust him, so I know it's not to scam me.
But he says he cannot purchase on my website (using PayPal) and only send as gift directly to me.

What could be the reason?
When I ask him, he does not want to explain.

Help me figure it out

Hello @gw2rewards

Welcome to the PayPal Community Forum. I can certainly understand why this would be a cause for concern. Unfortunately, Business accounts no longer have the option to receive personal payments. I would recommend having your customer reach out to our Customer Support teams to see what the issue is on their end.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause,

Hello @gw2rewards

Sorry for any confusion. I do understand you're inquiring about someone who is unable to send you a payment, so they'd like to send you money as a gift. They will not be able to send you a personal (gift) payment since you cannot receive personal payments as a business account, so it's best to start troubleshooting their side of the payment attempt first since you did not state you were having issues receiving money from other users through your site.

However, you're welcome to reach out to our Customer Support as well if you feel the issue is on your end. You may want to double-check your Resolution Center first to make sure there's nothing there which may require your attention.

Best wishes!

Thank you again for replying.
Again, I'm not sure you understood what I meant.
Maybe I explained it poorly.

I'm wondering what could be the reason a person cannot pay for a "transaction" with his PayPal but can send as gift?..
I found it kind of strange as I wanted him to pay on my website.
He said he couldn't, and could only send me directly as gift (which I declined)

Hello @gw2rewards

Thanks for reaching back out again!

I apologize for our misunderstanding; I understand that your friend is saying they only have the option to send the payment as a gift because they are unable to make a purchase through your website. All accounts should have the option to make purchases, especially if they've done it before. When considering the situation, only one possibility comes to mind as to why they can't send the payment normally. If our Security System is declining their current attempt, due to potential risk, they might be trying to send the payment another way. However, I do recommend denying any gifts/personal payments for purchases, because you wouldn't be covered by Seller Protection in the event of a dispute

I have a couple of tips that might help them make the payment. First, they should always log in from one consistent device with their location serviced turned on. Next, complete a quick restart of the device to ensure it has a solid internet connection. After that, clear the cache and cookies on their favorite browser. They can also clear the PayPal App's Cache in the phone's app settings. For more suggestions they can visit our Help Center article, Why was my payment declined? If they continue to have difficulty making the purchase, please urge them to reach out to Customer Support so we can help them investigate.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, but I hope your friend is able to make the purchase normally soon!
