$40 commission to receive money on Paypal?

Someone sent me 700.00 and I received 660.00 -Why?

Paypals fee is deducted from your buyers payment before being credited to your paypal account balance.

Thank you for your answer. I am not a seller- this was someone paying back a personal loan. I didn't realize it is only for businesses. Apparently I have missed that Paypal takes such large commissions for money transfers.

If it was someone paying you back then they should have used the friends/family option and not the goods/services option.

As the goods/services option was used then paypal saw you as a seller and applied the fee.
