Preferred method of payment with PayPal is set to card, funds were still taken from PayPal balance

Although my preferred method of payment with PayPal is set to my card, the funds were taken from my PayPal balance. What should I do? I tried asking for help on the chat, but it's not available at this moment

I definitely understand your concern and apologize for the concern it has caused.

 

Your preferred funding source will always be used when available for all PayPal payments except for billing agreements, subscriptions, or recurring payments. You will need to select a payment method for each individual automatic payment agreement that is active on your account. If there is a balance in your account, it will be applied to your billing agreement purchase first and then will pull from the selected payment method for that agreement next.

 

The second link listed above includes the steps you need to manage your active billing agreements and edit them accordingly.
