I get an error every time I try to change a subscription's funding source.

I have a subscription that PayPal tells me will be paid for by using the balance first, and then one of my cards - card A.

 

However, I no longer use that card for subscriptions, I rely on a different one instead - card B.

 

I want to change the preferred funding source to card B, but I can't, neither from the mobile app, nor the website. I get the following error message:

An unexpected error has occurred. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later.

I have tried, again and later, many times, but the error persists. In the end, the subscription is paid for, because I only have the two cards linked, and when card A fails, PayPal charges card B. But, I do get annoying "transaction failed" messages on card A's banking app.

 

How do I fix this, preferably without having to unlink cards?

Welcome to the PayPal Community Forum! I'm sorry to hear you've run into some issues updating your funding source for a subscription. Have you tried clearing your browser's cache, cookies, and history? I understand you don't want to unlink the old card, so if clearing your browsing history doesn't help, have you also tried confirming the new card

No, both suggestions don't address the problem.

 

I will reiterate that this affects the mobile app as well. In fact, I specifically installed it to try to get rid of that issue. There wasn't even a cache to clear.

 

And there is no "new card" that needs confirming. Both my cards have been confirmed for years.
