How much is the transaction fee to transfer funds from overseas to the US?

I'm from Malaysia and occasionally transfer money to friends in the US. I will be changed a fee and they are never the same for each transfer. The fee ranges from 4-8%. Why is that? How can I determine how much my friend(s) would receive and let PayPal deduct accordingly from my end?

I understand your concern about the fees. We charge a fee for personal transfers that come from a debit or credit card. There are no fees for personal payments to friends and family that are funded by your bank account or PayPal balance. We charge you a small fee when receiving payment for a sale.
