How long to take money from back up funding

How long does it usually take for PayPal to request from back up funding sources? I recently paid for a transaction & it paid for it using a bank account that is no longer active/open accidentally, PayPal have assured me the seller has been paid, however it’s been several days & no attempt from the back up funding source has been taken any advice on how long before it’s attempted from the back up source? Thanks

Congratulations on your first post on the PayPal Community Forum! 

I understand you'd like to learn how long it takes for a payment to be debited from a backup funding source, and I'll be happy to help. I'm also sorry to hear it hasn't happened yet, but I wouldn't worry. It sounds like your payment was most likely processed as an instant transfer. This means that we sent the money to the merchant and are now waiting for the money to clear from your bank. 

If a bank account is closed, it can still take around 3-5 business days for us to be notified by the bank. Once they notify us it's closed, we'll then immediately request payment from the backup funding source. Depending on the funding source, it could take a couple more business days before you see the money debited from your account. So, on average, I'd estimate around seven business days from when you first made the payment until you see it debited from your backup funding source. If there are any issues along the way, we'll send you an email letting you know.
