Error when trying to change "Payment method" for specific automatic payment

Hi peeps,

I'm having the same issue that is described in this archived post:

https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/Payments-Archives/recurring-payments-page-editing-the-quot-Payme...

In my case, it only affects "Apple Services". When I try to change its payment method (although I just want to change the currency conversion setting for my payment method), I get the message:

We're sorry, an unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later.

This issue doesn't occur for any of my other automatic payments. I contacted Paypal's customer service and Apple and both don't want to escalate. It's not related to my browser cache and cookies. I've already disabled the automatic payment and set it up from scratch on Apple's end, but same issue.

Other than the fact that it's a very minor issue, does anyone else have this issue and how to have it escalated to Paypal? Since it doesn't appear like those people from that 2019 ever got a solution either.

Hello @PhilChoquette, Welcome to the Community and thanks for posting.

Your PayPal balance is always used as the default payment method for a Billing Agreement. If you do not have enough funds in your PayPal balance, we use your backup payment method.

Here’s how to change your backup payment method for a Billing Agreement:

  1. Go to www.paypal.com/uk and log in to your account.
  2. Click the Settings icon at the top of the page.
  3. Click Payments.
  4. Under 'Manage your payments', click Manage Payments.
  5. Under 'Merchants', select the merchant whose agreement you want to change.
  6. Under 'Funding Source', click Change.
  7. Select an alternate funding source and click Save.

If an issue persists, for safety and security, please contact our customer support team via Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/PayPal/, Twitter - @AskPayPal, chat or phone.

That is the procedure I follow but as mentioned, there is an error message and PayPal's support didn't acknowledge it, even though I am not the only user who has been affected.

Hey, I had the same issue - for one of my cards I could not change the currency conversion on none of the associated automatic payments - tried removing/adding the payment, removing/adding the card - nothing helped.

Then I decided to give the mobile PayPal app a spin; lo and behold, I could change the currency conversion on all automatic payments through the mobile app.
