Depop payment

I tried to make a purchase from Depop. The transaction froze. I did not receive a payment confirmation email but money has left my bank. I checked my PayPal account and the notification is:

Pre-authorisation £xx GBP

On 18 August 2022, £xx 00 GBP was pre-authorised for a purchase on your card xx-xxx. If it isn't completed or it's completed for a different amount, any pending amounts will drop off, usually within a day.

What does this mean? Will my purchase go through later today? Can I cancel it somehow and start again? Please help! I can’t afford to lose my money. Thank you so much.

Hi @Madirah,

Welcome to the community and thank you for your post!

I do understand your concern with this. When you attempt to make a payment, the amount can be temporarily charged to your bank/card. This is an authorization charge.

As you did not complete the transaction, the merchant will not process your order. Therefore, the temporary charge will be removed from your bank within 72 hours. This is normal practice for online payments, so no need to be worried if this happens again.

I hope this helps!
