Long awaited goodbye to PayPal plug-in

I was extremely gratified to see that PayPal is dropping the browser plugin. I could never get it to work in any of the browsers I use (IE8 and Firefox). RIP. Smiley Tongue

I have been having trouble logging into Paypal and from this topic I gues this means that its OK except Why am I getting redirect errors.. I have to search for a way to get  it to redirect and dispaly the next page. I use FireFox  and added paypal to Allowed sites but that did not improve the problem. Any suggestions.

Thanks

I have rarely had any problem with the paypal plugin. I am going to miss it greatly. It kept me from entering my credit card on websites and it debited my bank account automatically. I hope they replace it with something else. There are too many websites out there that do not take paypal payments and this was a way to pay without risking my credit cards on the net. This is a step in the WRONG direction.

I also will miss the Plug-in--the temp MasterCard feature is (was) great and from what I can tell from the PayPal site FAQs, there is no replacement for that function.

I expect way less that half of the sites I use will support PayPal--my most recent on-line purchase is from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) member Website--a non-profit that just sells memberships. I expect it wil be a very long time before ACM.org bothers to implement PayPal on their site.

Hate to be cynical, but I can't help thinking this is all about PayPal wanting to add revenue streams by making Websites pay a license . .  or something.  More like a traditional bank every day--no interest and lots of fees!

They're getting their cut already, and dropping support for secure cards won't help get web sites to use them more, quite the opposite: it's going to cut my use of paypal substantially, and it's going to have collateral damage to my main credit union as well: neither of them offer virtual cards, so I'll have to go find one that does. My inquiry to Paypal resulted in a non-answer, just a link to the plug-in announcement page, which does not answer the question.

I too find it inconvienent for them to do away with the plugin.  My questions and objections went unanswered.

I don't care about the browser plugin, which I never use anyhow, as long as they don't get rid of the secure card feature, which I use frequently...

I believe the only way to do a secure card is through the paypal plugin. If this is not correct, I have not found anything on the website to contradict it.

I do not have a browser plugin installed. I get to it through the "Paypal Plugin" link in "My account tools" on the right side of the web page when I login. There, on the left, below "plugin home" is "Secure Cards" and you manage them in the web page, not an installed plugin that tries to automate some of the work. So, while it says "paypal plugin", it's not really the plugin that puts the paypal "P" in your toolbar, and I'm hoping that that's what they're dropping support for.
