Linking debit or credit cards. Does this make payments instant?

Hi I ordered a few items from ebay with my paypal account that had only a checking account linked to it. it said that the payments were uncleared/pending and its suggested to add a credit card to make instant payments. so i added my debit card to my account. will this speed up the process? I have been waiting for about a week for the payment to be "cleared"

A credit card makes the payment an instant payment.

Your payment was in the form of an echeck and, yes, it does take about a week to clear.

So what does adding a Debit card do?  The Instant Payment info page says "To qualify for instant transfer, you'll need to link a backup payment source such as debit or credit card".

Thanks

lfootmatt,

While we hope it's not needed, adding the credit or debit card provides a secondary funding source in the event the payment fails.

Hope this helps,

Adrian

I currently have a credit card on file, yet it is telling me I need to add a new debit or credit card to make an instant payment.  I tried entering the card number that is on file, and got a message saying that card # was on file.  I went to profile and the card shows up there, with an expiration date of 04/2012.

Why won't it use the credit card on file to secure the instant payment?

Thanks for your help!

krpurcel,

If you are receiving a request to add an additional card, check and make sure that the shipping address that is being entered is an exact match (right down to the periods) of your confirmed shipping address.

If it is not, you may be asked to enter a different card to confirm the address that has been entered.  Either select the confirmed shipping address, or add another card.

Hope this helps,

Adrian
