i was recently selling something on fb marketplace and the seller asked for my payment details. i sent them my link but they said they wanted to use my email. i got an email a couple of minutes later from an email that appeared as a paypal email  that read:

PayPal

Dear:  @ [removed] ,

You have received a payment of $522.00 from Giuliana [removed]

Important: To receive this payment, please reply to this email immediately stating that you accept the money.

Money will be available in your account as soon as you accept the money as instructed above.

Would paypal ever require confirmation for transfer of funds? The email looked extremely suspicious and the funds were not in my actual account so I felt something was very wrong.

Hello @13nte

Welcome to the PayPal Community!

I'm sorry to hear of the concerning email you received after setting up a sale on Facebook. The email you received is not from PayPal. All PayPal emails will address you by your first and last name as they appear on your account, and you won't need to reply to the email to accept money. It would be automatically deposited into your PayPal account as long as your email address is confirmed and your account is verified. Even if they aren't set up yet, you'd only be prompted to log in and complete those steps rather than reply to the email.

You can learn more about phishing emails and common scams on our Help Center by selecting the links I've included.

I hope this information helps; please stay safe!
