electrical item became faulty within 12 months and UK seller is very slow in resolving the problem

I purchased an electrical item from a UK seller in the region of £1000 via PayPal credit last February and 10 months in at the start of January the electrical item developed a fault and stopped working. The seller agreed for me to return the item for a repair and they confirmed it is faulty but they are taking 6 weeks so far to fix the item and I have asked for a replacement but they are insisting on repairing it. I was told it could take several weeks more for it to be returned to China and repaired. I am now considering wanting a full refund. Am I protected by PayPal credit as the item became defective within 12 months of its warranty. I was advised by trading standards I had a right to get the item repaired or replaced within a reasonable time period. Can I raise a dispute via PayPal credit to get my money back or for them to formally give the UK seller a big nudge to get a replacement sent to me?

Paypal only covers you for up to 180 days for item not received OR item received but not as described.

Any warranties over that time frame has to be sorted between you and the seller.
