PayPal Sides with Scammer Despite Overwhelming Evidence in My Favor

Hello everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to share my recent experience with an online transaction that turned out to be a scam. I believe it's crucial to share such experiences to raise awareness and help others avoid similar situations.

The Situation:
Recently, I engaged in a PayPal to Bitcoin exchange with a user who goes by the username "cjcode" on discord which later changed their discord handle to "mp60". The exchange seemed straightforward and was conducted with what I believed to be proper precautions. However, after a few days, the user initiated a chargeback which was supposed to be impossible since the transaction was through friends & family. The total amounted to around $100

Provided Evidence:
I provided PayPal with extensive evidence, including communication screenshots, transaction details, cryptocurrency transfer records, and even proof that the recipient's Bitcoin address showed the successful receipt of the cryptocurrency.

PayPal's Decision:

Despite the compelling evidence in my favor, PayPal closed the case in favor of the scammer. This outcome is incredibly disappointing and frustrating, as it feels like a clear injustice.

Community Discussion:

I wanted to share this experience with our community to caution others about the risks involved in online transactions, especially those involving cryptocurrency. I'm still hoping that there is someone out there from paypal that could help me out since I'm currently looking at my PayPal which has a negative balance and it irks me that PayPal sided with the scammer.

I was scammed by a bogus company in China. I contacted PayPal regarding the transaction, where they claimed to have delivered the package. I had never received the package. PayPal sided with these thieves who provided bogus tracking information. PayPal supplied my tracking information and the name of a courier service that supposedly delivered my package. The issues were 1) the owner of the courier service had been dead for several years, 2) the courier service no longer exists, and 3) USPS stated that a shipping statement had been made, but no delivery using that tracking number. I provided PayPal with all this evidence, plus countless posts from other customers saying they were cheats. Still, the horrendous customer service at PayPal sided with these charlatans. It does not surprise me that PayPal only resolves 9% of its issues. They just don't seem to give a hoot about the customer.

I can relate because I have sent bitcoin from my Coinbase account to astralassets.org which sounds like a great investment. It shows I’m making good money with them since investing. But I am very worried that they will not release my money when I want to withdraw it. They strongly recommend that I invest with them every few days. But I can not buy directly from them. I can only send my crypto or Solana or etheruem I wish I knew for sure they are not scammers. Sorry for your losses.

Yes I did research. Everything looks good. But I find it strange that they close out my account if I don’t make a deposit every week, which means I can’t withdraw my money either, until I make another deposit.

Does anyone use astralassets.org as a platform to send cryptocurrency tokens. They invest it with high yield. I use it and Coinbase. Also use E*Trade. I’d like to know your experience please. I’ve been warned that it’s a scam, but I don’t think so. I have not tried to take my money out yet. Thanks CjA11

I suggest contacting your bank that you have connected to PayPal. They are open and willing to look at your evidence and act as an advocate.  PayPal does not care about your situation.  They just want the fees associated with the transaction.

I’m in the process of canceling my PayPal account.  My daughter was victimized by a scammer operating an overpayment scheme.  When she stopped communicating with this person they invented a bogus dispute.  PayPal sided with the criminal and took huge debits out of her balance
