PayPal Sides with Scammer Despite Overwhelming Evidence in My Favor

Hello everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to share my recent experience with an online transaction that turned out to be a scam. I believe it's crucial to share such experiences to raise awareness and help others avoid similar situations.

The Situation:
Recently, I engaged in a PayPal to Bitcoin exchange with a user who goes by the username "cjcode" on discord which later changed their discord handle to "mp60". The exchange seemed straightforward and was conducted with what I believed to be proper precautions. However, after a few days, the user initiated a chargeback which was supposed to be impossible since the transaction was through friends & family. The total amounted to around $100

Provided Evidence:
I provided PayPal with extensive evidence, including communication screenshots, transaction details, cryptocurrency transfer records, and even proof that the recipient's Bitcoin address showed the successful receipt of the cryptocurrency.

PayPal's Decision:

Despite the compelling evidence in my favor, PayPal closed the case in favor of the scammer. This outcome is incredibly disappointing and frustrating, as it feels like a clear injustice.

Community Discussion:

I wanted to share this experience with our community to caution others about the risks involved in online transactions, especially those involving cryptocurrency. I'm still hoping that there is someone out there from paypal that could help me out since I'm currently looking at my PayPal which has a negative balance and it irks me that PayPal sided with the scammer.

I recently had a similar experience. My sister was not able to access her account and called a number for PayPal that she found on line. She was instructed to provide a friend or family member to send money to (to verify her identity). I questioned her on this but she was on the phone with them and hurried. I ended up complying. They sent money to me that I was instructed to reverse.  I did. Now, I have a negative balance with pay pal because they sided with scammers. Unfortunately, it appears that legal action is next.

Paypal tells you to NEVER do a google search for their number online as scammers use search engines to infiltrate fake numbers that put you through to scammers pretending to be paypal customer services.

The only way to get the safe number for paypal is to use help/contact ON paypals website.

Unfortunately you voluntarily sent a 'gift' of money using friends/family with 0 buyer protection to a scam.

Paypal did not 'side' with the scammer they legally could do nothing about it as using that option is basically sending a gift of money to someone and they can't just take it back again.

Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

I came here just will a little search on Google and the amount of similar cases like yours and mine are so staggering you can tell. Got paid to create a digital artwork for a customer, I sent it to him got disputed and even though I sent every proof of conversations we had with them and the actual art itself, after escalating to PayPal, the service favored the buyer and they don't even let me appeal. It's so goddamn crazy and outrageous.

In my experience, PayPal does not take in consideration if the seller is a fraud and/or scammer in a buyer protection case. I proved that the seller was a fraud and PayPal protection had no interest in this they seem to give the same seller protection to a scammer or a legitimate member of the PayPal community.

PayPal ruled against me in the protection case even though I felt I had a slam dunk of evidence that I had not received what I paid for  and the scammer was free to go on and scam another Paypal customer using the same PayPal account he used to rip me off

I dont feel protected by paypal anymore and will stop using it. It’s impossible to raise a dispute against a company that is a scammer. I will stop using paypal
