Can I permanently close my previously created PayPal account that I can no longer access?

Hello,

I hope this message finds you well. I have a situation regarding a previously created PayPal account that I would like assistance with.

In the past, I used a VPN service to attempt to create a US regional PayPal account in order to make payments for services and apps on the App Store (US region, too). During the account creation process, I utilized a service to temporarily rent a US phone number from SMSPool to receive account activation messages. After successfully logging into the newly created US PayPal account, I attempted to link it with my Apple ID to facilitate App Store payments. Additionally, I also linked a payment method to that PayPal account.

However, there came a period where I did not access that PayPal account for an extended duration, and upon logging back in, I found that the account had been temporarily restricted, requiring me to provide further information for verification. As I am not a US citizen, I do not possess the necessary legal documentation to provide the requested information. Therefore, I may need to accept the loss of that US regional account. However, I have several questions:

  1. If the account is not legitimate, is there a way for me to cancel it and close the account?
  2. Since I previously added my MasterCard to the account, is there a way for me to remove it from the PayPal account? I would like to ensure my card is not stuck there.
  3. If I can prove that I created the account, can PayPal support me in closing it? I also do not want my email address to remain associated with it.
  4. If I need to send an email to request support on this matter, whom should I contact?

Additionally, the account/email address I am using to request assistance is the same as the one associated with the account in question. If you require any specific documentation or information from me to facilitate the closure of this account, please let me know!

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

You created a paypal account registered in a country where you don't live which is against paypal rules.

The account was limited so you would never be able to close it.

Hi Kelvin102US, Thank you for reaching out to the PayPal Community for assistance with your account issues. I'll do my best to address your concerns: Account Legitimacy and Closure: If you're unable to provide the required documentation for verification and wish to close the account, you can typically do this directly through the PayPal website. However, since the account is restricted, you might need to contact PayPal Support directly to request closure. Removing Linked Payment Method: Normally, you can remove a linked payment method through the account settings. Given the restriction, you may need assistance from PayPal Support to ensure your MasterCard is removed. Account Ownership and Closure Support: If you can verify ownership of the account (e.g., by providing the email address, phone number used for the account, and any other relevant information), PayPal Support should be able to help you close the account and remove your email address from their records. Contact for Support: To get personalized assistance, you can contact PayPal Support via the Help Center on the PayPal website. You may also reach out through the following methods: Phone: Visit the PayPal Contact Us page for the correct phone number.Message Center: You can send a message directly through your PayPal account. Twitter/Facebook: PayPal Support is active on social media and can assist you there. Here is a general email template you can use to contact them: Subject: Assistance Required for Account Verification and Closure Dear PayPal Support Team,I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to seek assistance regarding my temporarily restricted US PayPal account. Below are the details of my situation: Account Legitimacy and Closure: If the account is not legitimate due to my inability to provide the required legal documentation as a non-US citizen, I would like to know if there is a way to cancel and close the account. Removing Linked Payment Method: I had previously linked my MasterCard to this PayPal account. I would like to ensure my card is not stuck and is removed from the account. Is there a process for me to do this? Account Ownership and Closure Support: If I can prove that I am the creator of the account, can PayPal support me in closing it? Additionally, I do not want my email address to remain associated with this account. Contact for Support: Could you please guide me on whom to contact for support on this matter? If an email is required, kindly provide the appropriate contact details. Please note that I am using the same email address associated with the PayPal account in question to request assistance. Paypal will not close or allow removal of anything from a permanently limited paypal account opened for the wrong country.

Hi @kernowlass,

Really? Even when it's my personal, currently working email address? So what do they keep it for exactly, when that account is totally unusable? It's mine, not anyone else's, and I don't think it can or will be passed on to anyone else in the future under any circumstances. Also, there is no way for people to register a new account with the same email address, right?

Best regards,

Kevin

Thanks so much for your detailed reply! I really appreciate it. However, since I can't log into my account, how can I contact PayPal Support via the Help Center? Also, regarding the email template, whom should I send it to?

I'll give the social media option a try as well.

Thanks again for your help!

Best,

Kevin

Hi Kevin, If you're unable to log into your PayPal account, you can still contact PayPal Support through their Help Center. You can visit the Help Center on PayPal's website without logging in. Look for the "Help & Contact" link, which usually appears at the bottom of the page. From there, you can explore different topics or search for specific issues. For account-related problems like yours, they often provide a phone number or a message center where you can submit your issue. Regarding the email template, typically, PayPal advises sending any detailed inquiries or issues through their official message center once you've logged into your account. If you're unable to log in, try reaching out to them via their official social media channels as well. They may be able to assist you promptly there. Good luck, and I hope you're able to resolve your issue soon! Best regards.
