The scammer transferred money to himself, Paypal does not cancel the transaction

Hey! My phone was stolen yesterday. The thief was able to hack into my Android and used the Paypal app on it. He transferred 500 euros to another account (unfortunately, my cards were linked to my account).

Yesterday I sent a request to tech support and received the following response from them:

"We've completed our review of your unauthorized activity case PP-I-18595017, and we've determined there was no unauthorized use.

Based on our review, we found this transaction is consistent with your PayPal payment history."

What can I do in this case to get my money back?

This is indeed theft, there is confirmation of the statement to the police, moreover, this thief contacted me yesterday from my phone and tried to extort money for distributing the photo among my Facebook contacts (there are screenshots).

"this transaction is consistent with your PayPal payment history." - what does it mean? I have never transferred money to this recipient's account (I used PayPal a couple of times a year and for significantly smaller amounts).

Paypal does not cover you for all unauthorised transactions if they think it was down to something that was your own responsibility ie keeping your phone safe. They may consider you didn't keep your password safe for your Paypal app? That may be why? If you don't agree then appeal?

What is an Unauthorized Transaction

An “Unauthorized Transaction” occurs when money is sent from your PayPal account that you did not authorize and that did not benefit you. For example, if someone steals your password, uses the password to access your PayPal account, and sends a payment from your PayPal account, an Unauthorized Transaction has occurred.

What is not considered an Unauthorized Transaction

The following are NOT considered Unauthorized Transactions:

  • If you give someone access to your PayPal account (by giving them your login information) and they use your PayPal account without your knowledge or permission. You are responsible for transactions made in this situation.
  • Invalidation and reversal of a payment as a result of the actions described under Refunds, Reversals and Chargebacks.

It's very typical. PAYPAL does NOT care for customers. I've had several transactions, where I've made purchases, paid for them, and NEVER RECEIVED my merchandise. I contacted PAYPAL, to no avail...  They will NOT work with you, it's impossible to speak with a human being... I think they're all robots...

I've cancelled my PAYPAL account several times and had to re-open it to keep a few customers and associates active. Otherwise, I would NEVER, ever deal with PAYPAL... They totally suck swamp water.

If you paid for your items using goods/services then you would have buyer protection for non receipt of item.

If the seller posted fake tracking and so won the dispute, you could have asked on here what the next step was.

Paypal does care for their customers but don't forget sellers are customers just as much as buyers !!

You make it sound so simple, yet, experience tells me otherwise.  I've transacted several times using PayPaL, which ended up being either unsatisfactory, purchases with NON-existent  fraudulent companies (who NEVER delivered the merchandise), cancellations of shady purchases in my account. NONE of these resulted in my favor.  According to your goddammed company those transactions were legal... LEGAL????? no merchandise???. KUDOS **bleep**. I cancelled my PayPal account and had reimburments, that were NEVER EVER honored by PayPal... I was informed that once my acct was closed, I would have to deal with the merchant...   One word... **bleep**... That's what PayPal is... You people suck swamp water...

I  can see reading is not your forte, I don't have a company, I work in healthcare and am a user of this forum the same as you are.

I have nothing to do with Paypal.

The only difference between us 'users' of this community forum is that I give up my time to help folks and you are rude and abusive.

Sounds as if you opened disputes for unauthorised instead of non receipt etc. Hundreds of folks have got refunds having filed a dispute with paypal every week on here, you just have to play the system correctly.

As I said if you had come on here and asked for advice we can advise you on what to do if you lost a dispute for fake tracking etc, but nevermind, wouldn't want to help you now anyway.

As for closing your account, bothers me not one bit.

Wow... sorry you're offended by my reply. I have NO IDEA of what you're talking about. Nothing personal, my beef is against PayPal, not with you.  I don't even know you, nor do I want to know you.   I was simply expressing my awful experiences with PayPal and sharing them with  PayPal customers. I never asked for your help, nor do I need it. This is an open forum, and I never meant to offend you personally.  You can sleep peacefully tonight, I don't need your help.
