Trying to pair my account with PEL LIVE Payoneer account to receive payments for a remote job, and I received an SMS with a verification code from [removed] phone number. I am wondering if this SMS verification code is in reality coming from PayPal or its a scam.

Hi @LA80,

Welcome to the community and thank you for your post!

I do understand your concern with this. PayPal currently does not support Payoneer. If you want to use Payoneer to receive your payments, you will need to withdraw the funds from them directly. You won't have the option to link it to your PayPal account.

If you are concerned that you are receiving messages that may not be from PayPal, please click here for further details on how to spot and report them.

I hope this helps!

Thanks a lot, Rachel, for your reply. I have gone through the link for spotting fake messages from PayPal; however, what was concerning for me is that the confirmation texts that I usually get does not show a phone number but says PayPal at once. This was the only time that the confirmation code came from a disclosed number and I was wondering if that is normal (the SMS contained only the code and no other links or anything of the sort).

A second question that arises is that, once I connected to PayPal and it paired my Payoneer account with my PayPal account (through PEL - LIVE), in my PayPal account I can see that it is paired and permissions were given to PEL - LIVE. So, my question is: if PayPal currently does not support Payoneer, why did it actually link it to my account? I am supposed to receive a payment to my Payoneer account which is supposed to automatically transfer it to my PayPal.

Hi @LA80,

Thank you for your reply!

I would not recommend relying solely on the number from which the text came for confirmation of a text's legitimacy. Phone numbers can be spoofed to appear to be something other than the actual source.

@PayPal_RachelK is correct that Payoneer and/or other virtual banks are not compatible with the PayPal system. Typically they are blocked from being added, but sometimes the system is unable to immediately detect that the bank is a Payoneer bank when it is added and it is erroneously allowed to be added. Even if that occurs, it will typically not work as a bank is intended to work, which is why you're running into a problem now. The addition of a traditional, non-virtual bank account is recommended for the full functionality of your PayPal account. I regret the inconvenience.
