PayPal send a security code to non PayPal user. Should it be concern?

Hi, all!

My wife received several security messages with  security codes from PayPal (seems to be real PayPal) while she does not have a PayPal account. The messages came through text and WhatsApp. Her cellphone is not associated with any PayPal account.

Should it be our concern?

Thanks a lot for any suggestions!

Hello @MarkDv and @sharpiemarker

Thank you for the posts!

I'm sorry to hear your wife received some strange messages, even though she doesn't have a PayPal account, @MarkDv. To determine if the messages were from PayPal, I recommend referring to our Help Centre: How do I spot and report a fake, fraudulent, or phishing PayPal email or website? If you determine the messages were sent from us, you may want to contact Customer Support for further investigation. You can reach Customer Support by clicking 'Contact' at the bottom of any PayPal website. Support is also available through Facebook Private Message or Twitter Direct Message.

I hope this helps!

Thank you for your replies!

Yes, that's what my initial attempt was - to contact Customer Support but when I tried to find a way to do that it was suggested to ask the forum instead.

I contacted Support now. Even though they have no idea why and how that could happen they said those messages could be safely ignored.

Thanks for your help!
