I got a text with a paypal security code but I had not been asked for one. Why?

I received a text message with a paypal security code yesterday but I had not asked for one nor was I doing any activities on PayPal. Should I be concerned? I tried asking customer service since yesterday but there was never anyone to answer my question, and was directed here. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the PayPal Community! I'm sorry to hear you've received an authorization code without requesting one. Normally, that means someone may be trying to access your account, but they would not be able to gain access without that code. I would recommend logging in and updating your password just in case. You may also want to double check for any unrecognized activity in your account. If you find anything, you can report it through our Resolution Center.

The same thing happened to me and many others on this site.  Do we need to close out Paypal accounts?
