I accidentally sent a large payment to the wrong email address

My father died this week and I had to pay a large amount of money to a garbage service after we cleaned out his house. However I accidentally put a typo in the destination address name. Now some random person has a ton of money. It was sent as "for goods and services".

I immediately (within 2 minutes of the error) Sent them an email and opened a dispute ("other billing issues", since no other reasons seemed to fit). That was yesterday, today paypal said "dispute rejected, wrong reason" My only option was to file an appeal, so I filed an appeal attaching some text messages.

The person who received the large amount of money is still unresponsive.

What else can I do here?

You should have opened a dispute for non receipt of item and as that person has nothing to send you then you would have received a refund.

Contact customer services and explain you opened the wrong dispute and hope that they agree to opening the correct one for you.

Contact options for each countries Paypal customer services are accessed by clicking help/contact bottom left of Paypal pages.

1. Paypal phones (you can use the guest option if you can't log in).
2. Live chat is also randomly available.
3. You can send them a message, (during business hours you may also be able to message whilst logged out).
4. Have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?
You can send them a personal message from their Facebook or Twitter pages.
It's: https://www.facebook.com/PayPal and @AskPayPal for Twitter.
