Hello. Recently, a friend sent me around 125 dollars on paypal, we then ran into some troubles in our friendship. Around a week or so later, I see I am 125 dollars in debt, I check to see what is the issue and I find the gift sent by the then-friend being refunded and on hold. I am disappointed and shocked however the claim is now being disputed. I am wondering what are the chances of them winning the dispute and getting the money back.

You are incorrect, if the payment was sent using the goods/services option then paypal view it as payment for goods/services.
It was not a 'gift' payment because it was not sent that way, the reason I know is because the sender opened a dispute for non receipt of item or services according to the original poster and that option is NOT available if the friends/family option was used. They did not report it as 'unauthorised'.
Sadly as you can't provide tracking or proof of delivery you may well lose the dispute. Try contacting customer services and see if you can appeal but if the funds were sent g/s its unlikely.

ok then you can't open a dispute for non receipt of item for a 'friends/family' payment.
So as its been opened for non receipt of item or service then to win you would have to provide they received the virtual service with the proof required in paypals seller protection policy.
