I have a man trying to send me a large amount of money but first I have to purchase a 100$ steam card. Is this real or is it a scam?

This is definitely a scam. If you're involved with someone online only, this can be the beginning of you becoming a money mule or just another scam victim. I would suggest you look up the group SCARS. It is a relationship scam group of people who will help you. Please stop all communication with the person.
