Hey theresamgibson,

If you have a balance in your PayPal account the only thing I can think that would cause this issue is if you received your payment is a different currency which was converted to GBP.

You then have a balance in GBP but no USD (for example) to issue the refund from. If this is the case you can transfer the amount from your GBP balance to the other currency and then issue the refund.

I have provided the steps below on how to convert your balance between currencies. As we are introducing a new Profile to some customers I have provided both sets of steps so just follow which ever one suits your profile.

  1. Go to www.paypal.co.uk and log in to your account.
  2. Click ‘Profile’ near the top of the page.
  3. Click ‘Currency Balances’ under ‘Financial Information.’ (Don't see this step? Follow the instructions below.)
  4. Enter the amount you want to convert under ‘Currency Exchange.’
  5. Select the currency to convert the funds from.
  6. Select the currency to convert the funds to.
  7. Click ‘Calculate’ to see the currency conversion.
  8. Click ‘Start Exchange’ to transfer the funds.
  9. Click ‘Exchange Currency’ to confirm the transfer.

Or

  1. Go to www.paypal.co.uk and log in to your account.
  2. Click ‘Profile’ near the top of the page.
  3. Click ‘My money.’
  4. Click ‘Currencies’ beside PayPal balance.
  5. Enter the amount you want to convert under ‘Currency Exchange.’
  6. Select the currency to convert the funds from.
  7. Select the currency to convert the funds to.
  8. Click ‘Calculate’ to see the currency conversion.
  9. Click ‘Start Exchange’ to transfer the funds.

10.  Click ‘Exchange Currency’ to confirm the transfer.

Any help regarding this? To reiterate again.

I have received a payment for a buyer.

I have a option of issue refund

Once I select this option I receive this error in the top of my paypal screen

'Your money can't be transferred from your bank account to cover this refund at this time. Please add money to yourPayPal account , or add another payment method.'

I have ample funds (including the amount the buyer has paid me) already in my paypal account in order to send this refund.

Can anyone explain why i cannot refund this buyer?

I was also met with the same error message when i tried to issue a partial refund which i raised but got no help for, an no the currency wasnt different as the buyer paid in pounds sterling. Its just the whole service is rubbish and customer service is zero help! This has now resulted in the ebay resolution centre issuing the buyer with a full refund and she still has my suit which i sold her, or as it turns out, thx to ebay, she got it for free!!!!! pure theft. ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi dizzyhead68

I also had this same problem i sold a keyboard on ebay and even drove the item to wales. The man paid me into pay pal and it cleared so i stupidly thought everything was ok. I then got home to 20 messages from this guy saying the item didnt work etc (bare in mind he said he was at work till 6 this was at 3 in the afternoon) so i called him back and said i can assure you it does anyway cut a long story short he then procceded to cancel the pay pal transaction and then raised a grievance with e-bay who REFUNDED him after he said i never gave him the money back. So i am now in the process of waiting for e-bay to take me to court because they wont belive that he cancelled the payment even tho i showed them proof and they still state i owe them £296.

I find this utterly disgusting as for one i stated no returns and 2 i was not informed of none of this untill i recived a phone call saying i owed them money and baliffs would be sent to my house

Hi there,

I have also had a similar problem. Nothing you can do about it, I clicked for reund, but hey, Paypal say money cant be transferred. If the buyer opens a case like this one, you won't win and it just causes high blood pressure!

The buyer started with emails asking where the item was, then on the day of the delivery i recieved another email asking where it was. Same day again, the buyer said - oh, postie just delivered it! Same day buyer proceeded to tell me the item was faulty - I know it was not faulty and I dont do refunds. I offered to look at the item before finally agreeing a refund. Within a day of her having the unit she put it all through the resolution centre claiming I never responded - I did, I have email evidence! On the day she did this I was nursing my dying father - impatient, difficult buyers are a pain. To top it off I recieved my item - damaged and not working - done by the buyer. The lengths these sad people go to because they have changed their mind about an itemb and nothing you can do about it.

Once my last batch of stuff is sold, ebay and paypal can go to the trash can on my PC because they are about as much help as a car with no tyres. I will go back to car boot sales - less payout and an opportunity to meet people in the flesh!

No-one has control of their accounts when it comes to refunds, and it's always your word against theirs anyway. As a suggestion guys, adapt your buying presferences and block the unreliables and ONLY opt for top buyers and sellers.

Ebay resolution centre have issued a refund to a buyer following the closure of a resolution case escalated by the buyer, however the buyer has not kept there end of the bargain and has not returned the item. The refund should not have been issued automatically by ebay which has now resulted in me being out of pocket and without my item. i dont understand how or why ebay would allow buyers to exploit the service in this way.  I have rasied this with both paypal and ebay customer support ( which is just a joke) and neither are taking responsibilty for the action. It really puts me off selling on ebay ever again. I WANT PROTECTION AND REFUND TRANSACTION RETURNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its out an out Theft!!!!!!

Has anyone else fell victim to this or is it just me? HELLPPPPP!!!!
