where do i go to find the refund button. he held the money and i have no other way of paying it but sending his money back on paypal

There is not one once the money is put on hold. (It's stupid, I know)  If you sold the item through eBay, simply refund the money through there.

No additional money will be taken out and the money that's on hold will be given back to the buyer. (Not to mention you will be given your final value credit)

If you made a transaction through some other means besides eBay, you will have to call Paypal and ask for the resolution center.
