Hi! I was wondering how the paypal.me link works on the side of the person sending money. Does the person using the link to send money also have to have a paypal.me link/account? I tried it out with someone and they always got redirected to creating their own link so I wanted to check whether that was an isolated case or just how it works. Any help is appreciated 🙂 Thanks!

No, that shouldn’t happen, at least when I tested my link. It takes me to the login page after clicking the link. Double check if they are being asked to create a PayPal account, and not a PayPal.me link. It’s odd to be asked to create a link when one are trying to send or request money by the link. PayPal did update the link features so perhaps they are invited to create one, too.
Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Yes, the person using the PayPal.me link to pay needs to have a PayPal account too.
If you want the person to be able to pay without a PayPal account, create a PayPal buy now link: https://www.paypal.com/buttons/ and export as an email link. If you want the customer to enter a price, enter “0.00” in the price field.
Also enable PayPal Account Optional setting:
Here’s how to enable the PayPal account optional setting (business accounts):
- Hover over your name in the top right corner.
- Click Account Settings in the drop-down menu.
- Click Website payments under 'Products & Services' on the left of the page.
- Click Update beside 'Website preferences'.
- Select On under 'PayPal account optional'.
Here’s how to enable the PayPal account optional setting (personal accounts):
- Click the cog icon next to log out button.
- Click Seller Tools in the sub menu.
- Click Update beside 'Website preferences'.
- Select On under 'PayPal account optional'.
Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Hi, thanks for answering. I was wondering more about whether they need to have created their own paypal.me link, not a paypal account. The person I tested it out with kept on being prompted to create one when clicking my link. Do you know anything about that?
