My experience was a little different, but involved the way Paypal works with Airbnb:
I rented an Airbnb using PayPal and that day, PayPal paid Airbnb. Thank you, PayPal. In a chat later, I was told they "fronted me the money".
Then, two days later, PayPal tried to charge my checking account for that amount even though my Credit Card was marked as preferred. I was charged a $31 overdraft fee by my bank.
I checked my PayPal account to make sure the Card was preferred, and it was. Thinking my Card must have rejected the charge, I added a second card. PayPal automatically changed the preference to the new card. I called the first card and found they had not seen nor rejected the charge. I "chatted" with PayPal about the mistake with no resolution.
Two days later, PayPal tried again to charge my bank account and I again incurred at $31 overdraft fee. They then tried my old card and the transaction was successful. I tried to file a complaint and found that there's no category for the situation when PayPal messed up. So I filed it as a "billing issue".
Several days later, I got an email saying they have to deny my case because, "your billing dispute doesn't match our qualification for a billing dispute". I agree, but it also isn't unauthorized activity or a problem with the item I purchased (which are my only other choices).
Does anyone have a recommendation for how I ask for PayPal to cover the $62 I'm out in the right way, using the correct PayPal channels?
