Verification rigmarole

In trying to make a purchase by PayPal, I was confronted with a rigmarole of "verification".   This involved receiving a code by phone call.  I do not use phone due deafness (not uncommon amongst octogenarians) so I abandoned and paid by card.

How can I avoid this unacceptable none-sense with PayPal other than paying by a more acceptable means?

Is it time for me to abandon what has become user unfriendly PayPal (which used to be quick, easy, user friendly way of paying)?

Do you have a mobile (not landline) phone issued in your country and registered in just your name verified on your Paypal account?
Paypal are using mobile phones for i.d requirements for logging in and withdrawal funds for extra security measures.
As they send a text then your deafness shouldn't be an issue.

Thank you for that - but like many people with acute hearing problems I do not have a mobile phone (and do not want one just to be able to use Paypal !).  Strange that I can use on-line banking and payments by debit or credit card with far less hassle and no mobile phone.  I feel the "pal" bit has disappeared!  Searching the web for solutions, I have read that I can turn the "verification" bit off  in "my preferences"  - a bit chicken and egg as I now have to do the verification  bit to get into my account!!!!!

LOL I have hearing issues and wouldn't be without my mobile phone, can then access Paypal / texts / online banking / social media / internet etc etc without any problems.
