Mysterious request for PP to put funds into my account

This morning I made a purchase from M&S International to go to the USA. I used my Paypal account. This afternoon I got an email from Paypal to say that I had requested a sum to be paid by them into my uk bank account. That sum has already arrived and would seem to be the same in sterling as the M&S sum in dollars. What is going on. I have tried calling Paypal but got nowhere. Help
